Cubic Polo Ponies by DaffoDille Cubic Polo Ponies by DaffoDille
We interrupt your regularly scheduled slough of commission uploads to bring you something seriously old that made me want to kill myself.
This is a project I completed last fall in my Creative Design course. It took for. Ev. Er. No lie. I wish I had kept track of how many pieces of foam core this was cut out of. We weren't allowed to paint it as we went, we had to wait until construction was completed, at which time we had to prime the whole thing and then go to town trying to paint all the nooks and crannies.

Would this be categorized under sculpture? I made the box myself too. I don't even know. I love and hate this piece at the same time.

It's supposed to be a bunch of polo ponies by the way. Cubism, punks. :U

Maybe Futurism would apply too -- a Futuristic Cubist 21 artwork ... As it is also very dynamic .  A very good production++ I think.

Kind of stupid for the instructor to forbid painting as you go. >.< You did a great job on it despite the deliberately sabotaging directions and restrictions imposed upon you. Great work. **smiles**

if i remember correctly from artcollege cubism a model or object displayed from many different angles, in the same painting/sculpture. It has nothing to do with boxes full of foam. Still a nice hobby project tho, just would not call it cubism.

This is a prime example of cubism:

I know, I'm operating under the definition that the subject is broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form, 'though I certainly could have done a better job of that in this piece. There are multiple layers of foam depicting one or more features of a horse or it's rider or the surroundings all at once that look different depending on the angle, so I chose to call it cubism.

And I am certainly not operating at the same caliber as Marcel Duchamp haha.

You do not remember correctly.

Cubism is a style, not a thing. A box of foam can be done in the cubistic style.

Offcourse its a style, maybe my poor knowledge of the english language prefented me from getting that across. Its a style.

The style of your name for example, suggests you are very young of age.

My argument was that this box of foam whas not done in a cubistic style. Check out the picture that i linked to in my first comment.

You really are an idiot. I am twenty years old; my name suggests I understand the meaning of words and irony. "Lunatic" originally referred to someone people believed was crazed by the moon (thus luna), thus making a lunatic sun an impossibility.

And, it may not be a perfect example of cubism, but it is cubism none the less. The elements are broken down to close to their geometric forms.

Thank you! Weirdly enough, second to the actual construction of this crazy thing, picking the colors was the hardest part. Some pieces got four or five different coats of paint as I kept trying different directions. ^^;
